MY THOUGHTS ON NAJIB'S 100 DAYS AS MALAYSIA'S 6TH PRIME MINISTER.

In less than 24 hours, Dato' Sri Najib Razak will be accountable for his 100 days in office of the prime minister.

In my mind, the following changes will in a way reflect the vision of PM Najib:-

1MALAYSIA:

Najib's concept of 1Malaysia was primarily initiated to reach out to the younger generation of Malaysians, who had been critical of the nation's development agenda for more than a decade. Thus, Najib's first task was to devise a friendly and effective channel of direct link between him and all Malaysians.1Malaysia had developed into a powerful tool of communication.

The rest is history and 1Malaysia is now getting more popular by the day and very positive two way channel of communications, not only from the younger generation but also from the middle and senior citizens' group.1Malaysia will also go "live" with video conference (Q & A) with the PM himself.

Some Malaysians had been intoxicated by the opposition that they did not understand the "meaning of 1Malaysia", which means "UNITY IN DIVERSITY FOR ALL MALAYSIANS", in order to identify ourselves as a Malaysian, and not Chinese, Malay, Indian, Iban, etc.

TRANSPARENCY AND INTEGRITY:

Various mechanisms was initiated to check on the state of corruptions that had flourished for decades since our independence. Corruptions were the vehicle and platform for the award of project tenders (closed tenders) and other obligatory malpractices.

I believe Najib will eventually wipe out this stigma and epidermic of rampant corruptions, that still exit in the public, private and corporate entities.

A NEW POLITICAL WILL:

The unfavorable results of the 12th general election of 8th March 2008, was a wake up call for our political master and leadership.

It was rather unfortunate that the political triumph in 2004 was short-lived when BN lost 5 states came to the opposition.

Najib who took the nation by surprise, when he saw the opportunity to wrest control of the state of Perak,(from the PR government) through an electoral and constitutional crisis in February 2009.

Given the current political scenario and ample goodwill for Najib as the incumbent prime minister, more opposition states are expected to return to the fold of the BN ruling government.

A NEW ECONOMIC APPROACH AND FINANCIAL SYSTEM:

On the economic front, Najib had been severely tested in the wake of the current global economic downturn and depression.Najib initiated two substantial economic stimulus in the first quarter of 2009 and liberalised some of the economic, finance and investment sectors recently.

Most economists are supportive of the PM's initiatives as well as his equitable agendas in order to combat and stimulate the weakening economy.

FOREIGN POLICY AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS:

Apart from keeping up with diplomacy within ASEAN, Najib was quick to embark on his official trip to China, following the foot step of his father. The late PM Tun Razak who started the "ping pong" diplomacy with China in 1974.

Najib underscored the strategic importance in fostering Malaysia's relationship with China. The visit was not only sentimental and nostalgia to Najib and his family, but also reinforced the warm and brotherly ties with the Chinese.

The China visit will neutralise the political divide of the Malaysian Chinese in terms of political and social goodwill in the community.Time will tell but we are all confident of the political impetus and breakthrough that will demolish the Chinese support for the opposition.

The recent diplomatic engagement with the United states, also dramatically underscored Malaysia's seriousness and commitment for a renewed diplomatic ties with the states. Najib's outreaching approach with effective communication and networking will foster a better relations with US.

Malaysia looks forward and welcome the visit of President Obama to this country as well as Najib's reciprocated visit to the US in the near future.
